This past Friday, ahead of plans for a farewell Grand Tour, country legend and friend of Keith, George Jones, passed away. A sold-out finale concert was scheduled for November 22 in Nashville, which was to feature a host of special guests, including The Oak Ridge Boys, Kid Rock and Cyndi Lauper.

From this handwritten note, obtained by The Tennessean, it seems that Keith was to be a surprise guest. Keith promised to be at the concert "by hook or by crook".

Keith made guest appearances on two of Mr. Jones' recordings - on the 2005 greatest hits release, The Bradley Barn Sessions and on the title track of 2008's Burn Your Playhouse Down: The Unreleased Duets.

We at KeithRichards.com offer our deep condolences to Jones' family and friends. Fans are welcome to do the same at GeorgeJones.com.

Keith At Crossroads

<creator>MothersLittleHelper</creator><commentcount>0</commentcount>

This weekend, Keith made a surprise appearance at his old friend Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival. His performance at New York's Madison Square Gardens event drew a huge standing ovation in a night that featured other guitar legends like Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy.

Following the success of their first official bootleg (The Brussels Affair) last November, the Rolling Stone have released a second official bootleg: Hampton Coliseum (Live 1981).

Recorded in Hampton, VA on December 18, 1981, the concert marked Keith’s 38 birthday, and has become notorious for an incident that occurred during the band’s performance of "(I Can’t Get No)Satisfaction". Spying a fan who had invaded the stage and was rushing towards Mick, Keith intervened and hit the intruder with his Telecaster.

Hampton Coliseum (Live 1981) is available for fans worldwide (excluding the US) at StonesArchive.com, and for fans in the US at Google Music.

Happy Holidays from Keith

<creator>Lisa</creator><commentcount>0</commentcount>

Wingless Angels Box Set Nominated for Grammy

<creator>cosi</creator><commentcount>0</commentcount>

Exciting Wingless Angels news this morning: Art director David Gorman has been nominated for a Grammy for his work on the Wingless Angels – Deluxe Edition Vinyl set in the category of Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package! Forester's novels about Horatio Hornblower and then later Patrick O'Brian's novels on which Master and Commander was based."

New Photos In The Gallery

<creator>Aaron</creator><commentcount>0</commentcount>

Head over to the Gallery now to see a handful of newly posted shots of Keith and friends: We've got four shots from the recent premiere of Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, as well as classic shot of Keith with David Bowie and Tina Turner from 1983. Honorees included Wikipedia Founder Jimmy Wales, Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration (DARPA) and author David Brooks and our own Keith Richards!

Keith was recognized for his use of the "Open G Tuning" method of guitar playing. Instead of the six strings used in standard guitar tuning, in the late 60's Keith created a disruptive innovation by playing chords and riffs on five-string open G banjo tuning on his electric guitar. "It changed my life," said Richards. This innovative use of Open G tuning embodied the hallmark sound of the Rolling Stones, leaving an indelible mark on rock and roll.

Keith's manager of 25 years, Jane Rose, accepted the award on his behalf. Festival co-founder and disruptive innovation spearheader Craig Hatkoff explained that he had always wondered why his version of "Honky Tonk" never sounded quite right. When he finally discovered Open G, "it sounded like a goddamn orchestra," he said.

Keith Richards is passionate about his fans, especially those in Japan who need our help now more than ever. Fans from 35 countries helped raise $138,000 USD by purchasing more than 5,000 limited edition t-shirts. They were available through KeithRichards.com and 100% of the profits will be donated to the Japan Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund.

For decades, Japanese fans have been some of the most passionate supporters of rock and roll and as an effort to give back, Richards made this special, limited edition t-shirt based on a photo taken by Claude Gassian on the Japanese leg of the Steel Wheels Tour in 1990.

Life is the rock and roll literary event of the year! Keith's new book has topped bestseller lists in the US, UK and France, and it's drawing rave reviews. Here's a sample, from Michiko Kakutani's review in the New York Times: "Mr. Richards has found a voice in these pages — a kind of rich, primal Keith-Speak —
that enables him to dispense funny, streetwise observations, tender
family reminiscences, casually profane yarns and wry literary allusions
with both heart-felt sincerity and bad-boy charm."

If you haven't read Life yet, what are you waiting for?
The album also includes "Hurricane", an acoustic gem previously available only to fans who donated to Hurricane Katrina relief during the most recent Rolling Stones tour.

UPDATE: THIS PROMO IS NOW OVER

And that's not all: Just this week, anyone who purchases a copy of Vintage Vinos on KeithRichards.com will receive an exclusive download of the live video for "Take It So Hard" from the out-of-print Live at the Palladium. Recently encoded from the video masters, this is the song that started it all for Keith and the X-Pensive Winos.

Life: In Stores Today!

<creator>Aaron</creator><commentcount>0</commentcount>

Reviews are already starting to come in, and the critics are raving!

Now here's your Keith-watch update: Keith sits for two more interviews today, with the Associated Press and in The Wall Street Journal. And remember, Keith week continues all this week on Sirius XM Radio.

In addition to their Keith-devoted programming, Sirius is currently holding a contest to win a signed copy of Life and the 13-LP box set The Rolling Stones 1964-1969. Head over to Sirius now to place your entry!

As you might have heard, the San Francisco Art Exchange is launching a Keith Richards photography exhibition, opening this Saturday, October 23 (just three days before Life hits shelves). Some of the world's greatest rock photographers are coming together to form an intimate look at the various stages of Keith's life in "Before They Make me Run – Portraits of Keith Richards '63 to '71." This is a unique opportunity to see how each photographer captured a different side of Keith. Not to be missed.

KeithRichards.com is teaming up with the San Francisco Art Exchange on a very special offer.
In conversation with Anthony DeCurtis, a music journalist, and contributing editor for Rolling Stone, Keith Richards will discuss the storied journey of the Rolling Stones, as well as his passion for books and for history. He will chronicle how he created the revolutionary, high-octane riffs that defined "Jumping Jack Flash," "Gimme Shelter" and "Honky Tonk Woman," his affair with the equally infamous Anita Pallenberg (the mother of three of his children), and the tragic death of Brian Jones. He will also discuss the personal values that have made him a proud, successful father, and a happily married man for more than twenty-five years.
Anthony DeCurtis has written frequently about both Keith Richards and The Rolling Stones in the course of his thirty-year career as a music journalist, most notably for Rolling Stone, where he is a contributing editor.

Exclusive extracts from LIFE in The Times

<creator>Aaron</creator><commentcount>0</commentcount>

Listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records, learning guitar and forming a band with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones. The Rolling Stones' first fame and the notorious drug busts that led to his enduring image an outlaw folk hero. Creating immortal riffs like the ones in "Jumping Jack Flash" and "Honky Tonk Women." Falling in love with Anita Pallenberg and the death of Brian Jones. Tax exile in France, wildfire tours of the US, isolation and addiction. Falling in love with Patti Hansen. His disagreement with Jagger and subsequent reconciliation. Marriage, family, solo albums and Xpensive Winos, and the road that goes on forever.

With his trademark disarming honesty, Keith Richards brings us the story of a life we have all longed to know more of, unfettered, fearless, and true."

Life is available for pre-order from your favourite retailer now. First, we see the long-awaited re-release of Keith Richards' first ever solo recording, a barnstorming version of the Chuck Berry classic "Run Rudolph Run." The track was recorded in 1976 at Island Studios, London while Keith was mixing what would later become Love You Live. It came out as a limited 7-inch in late '78/early '79 and has been impossible to find ever since.

Equally collectable is the previously unreleased cover version of the Toots and the Maytals' "Pressure Drop," which he recorded in May 2003 at Dangerous Music in New York City. Keith was recording "Careless Ethiopians" with Toots and the Maytals for Toots' True Love album, released in April 2004. This crackerjack version of "Pressure Drop" was recorded at the same time.

Get both of these classic Keith Richards solo tracks exclusively on iTunes.

For those who would rather swab the decks than deck the halls, the Extras section of the newly released two-disc-collector's edition of Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End includes a hilarious interview between Keith and Jonny Depp shot on set during Keith's cameo performance as Captain Teague, the keeper of the pirate code. Get it today and watch with the whole family come Christmas.

There's also a limited edition Captain Teague 18" action figure, available in the U.S. only. The detailed figure of Keith as Jack Sparrow's father comes complete with 2 pistols, a sword, hat and matching base. And it has motion activated sound. That's right, Keith speaks. That's available here.

For those of you that need all the details, take a look below at James Karnbach's (author of It's Only Rock-N-Roll: The Ultimate Guide to the Rolling Stones) inside information on "Run Rudolph Run."

"Run Rudolph Run" [M. Brodie, J. Marks]

In December 1978 Keith Richards had released his very first solo record on Rolling Stones records The Harder They Come b/w "Run Rudolph Run" [RSR102] in the U.S. The record would later be released in the U.K. in February 1979. "Run Rudolph Run" was first made popular by Chuck Berry in 1958. Since then it has been recorded over a dozen times by artist such as Sheryl Crow, Dave Edmunds, Grateful Dead & the Beach Boys.

Back Story

In late 1976, while in London, Keith one night decided to go down to Island Studios. It being Christmas time, Keith decided to get into the holiday spirit by doing a version of one of his idols songs, Chuck Berry's "Run Rudolph Run". He put a call into Ian Stewart to set up studio time, and he, Stu and whoever else was available headed down to Island for a jam session. It had been a slow time in Rolling Stones recording and the only other thing Keith was active with at this time was working with John Phillips on his album.

The track then stayed idle for two years when in December 1978 Keith decided to give Rolling Stones fans a Christmas gift with the release of "Run Rudolph Run" b/w The Harder They Come. The results were very positive among the Stones fan base, with Keith giving his fans a sample of his two loves: Reggae music & Chuck Berry.

Playing the Song Live

In 1988, Keith's fans got treated to a live version of "Run Rudolph Run" when he added an extra show to his Talk is Cheap Tour at the Brendan Byrne Arena on the 17th of December. The song was done as a Christmas treat for all the fans that came to the show. Johnnie Johnson was a special guest on piano for the song, which was part of the encore. Then almost 10 years to the date of the Brendan Byrne show, Keith was a special guest for Ronnie Spector’s Christmas show held at NYC Life Café. Again Keith was in the Christmas spirit and decided to perform "Run Rudolph Run". He had to get a copy of his record so the Ronnie Spector group and guests could familiarize themselves with Keith’s version of the song and lyrics. Luckily a copy was found and Keith and the band got to rehearse it at the sound check earlier that day. The show that night went off without a hitch and when Keith came on there was a near crush in the front of the stage. The crowd really went wild as Keith blasted into "Run Rudolph Run", which was only the second time he performed the song to a live audience. Feeling the energy, he stayed on to do one more song for the encore: "Be My Baby".

Keith Richards To Publish His Autobiography

<creator>Lisa</creator><commentcount>0</commentcount>

NEW YORK Michael Pietsch, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Little, Brown and Company, announced today that Keith Richards will write his highly anticipated autobiography for publication in Autumn 2010. James Fox, the author of White Mischief, is collaborating with Richards on a book that will recount one of the most eventful, influential, and closely watched lives of modern times. Richards was represented in the negotiations by his manager Jane Rose and literary agent Ed Victor. Keith Richards is a guitarist, songwriter, singer and a founding member of The Rolling Stones. With songwriting partner and Stones lead vocalist Mick Jagger, he has written and recorded some of the most enduring songs of our times, including “Satisfaction,” “Jumpin’Jack Flash,” and “Start Me Up.” Richards selected James Fox as co-author based on his admiration of Fox’s 1982 book White Mischief, an account of the unsolved murder of the 22nd Lord Erroll in Kenya in 1941.

“Keith Richards has stood cool at the center of the hurricane for nearly fifty years,” said Pietsch. “His story, in his own words—the band, the songs, the tours, the life—will be the most eagerly awaited book ever to come out of the hallowed halls of rock and roll.”

Little, Brown acquired world English language rights together with Weidenfeld & Nicolson in the United Kingdom, and the editions will be published simultaneously. The truth of the matter is that I planted a sturdy English Oak. I took the lid off the box of ashes and he is now growing oak trees and would love me for it!!!
